DeWitt ZIP Code Coverage Working List
Eight postal labels touch the DeWitt research area. This is a working list drawn from the official Onondaga generalized ZIP map and local county administrative ZIP listings. It is not a set of municipal ZIP polygons. The county map says its boundaries are approximate, derived from local sources, and not a USPS boundary authority. Use the notes as a research starting point, then test the exact street with USPS and the jurisdiction with parcel or GIS records.
| ZIP | Areas Covered | Post Office | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 13057 | Town Hall and some DeWitt mailing lines | East Syracuse delivery label | Check the exact street with USPS. |
| 13066 | Southeast or eastern DeWitt edge and nearby delivery area | Fayetteville delivery label | Parcel situs controls the town question. |
| 13078 | South DeWitt and Jamesville area | Jamesville delivery label | Delivery label is not town-boundary proof. |
| 13206 | Northern or urban edge on the generalized county map | Syracuse delivery label | Verify an address rather than relying on ZIP alone. |
| 13211 | Northern regional postal area in local map material | Mattydale delivery label | Exact DeWitt intersection was not confirmed. |
| 13212 | Northern regional postal area in local map material | North Syracuse delivery label | Exact DeWitt intersection was not confirmed. |
| 13214 | Core DeWitt delivery area | DeWitt delivery label | USPS controls the standardized individual address. |
| 13224 | DeWitt and Syracuse edge delivery area | DeWitt delivery label | Check municipality by parcel or GIS, not the label. |
A ZIP can extend well beyond a town. The research did not locate an official USPS municipal DeWitt-by-ZIP polygon or a documented ZIP realignment history. That absence is a reason to verify current delivery information, not a reason to draw a boundary from a static map.
Note: The eight labels are useful for narrowing an address search, but only an address-level USPS result can standardize a particular delivery line.
DeWitt ZIP Code Labels and Town Limits
Postal city names and municipal limits answer different questions. DeWitt Town Hall is in East Syracuse ZIP 13057 even though the municipality is DeWitt. Likewise, a DeWitt-related address may use a DeWitt, Syracuse, East Syracuse, Fayetteville, or Jamesville line. USPS assigns delivery formatting and ZIP codes. Town Planning and Code, county GIS, RPTS tax maps, and Census BAS boundary material serve other geographic purposes.
The Onondaga RPTS search menu makes the distinction concrete. It separates a physical property address from an owner's mailing address. The assessment roll also separates property location and class from current owner's address. A mailing address can be a tax-bill destination, a designated representative, or an out-of-town address. It should never be relabeled as a parcel location or a current occupant's address.
- ZIP Code
- A postal routing code used for delivery-address formatting and sorting. It is not a municipal boundary.
- ZIP+4
- An added four digits that identify a more specific delivery segment after the five-digit ZIP code.
- PO-box ZIP
- A ZIP used for post-office-box delivery. It does not describe a street-area boundary.
- Unique ZIP
- A ZIP assigned for a specific large organization or delivery arrangement, not a general municipal geography.
- Carrier route
- A postal delivery sequence within a ZIP area. It is a route, not a statement about town jurisdiction.
USPS Fields for a DeWitt ZIP Code
The official USPS ZIP Lookup is the current delivery-address check. USPS exposes three modes: By Address, By City and State, and Cities by ZIP Code. Its result can standardize a delivery address and recommend a city name. USPS expressly warns that the result does not confirm a person or company at that address, so use it for postal formatting, not identity.
| USPS mode | Documented fields | Use |
|---|---|---|
| By Address | Company optional; street address required; apartment or suite optional; city required; state required; ZIP Code optional | Check a full street delivery line. |
| By City and State | City; state | Find postal possibilities for a named city and state. |
| Cities by ZIP Code | ZIP Code | See city names USPS associates with the ZIP. |
USPS says ZIP information updates on a recurring 30 to 60 day schedule. That is why a current address lookup is stronger than reusing an old directory header or a static county map. If the postal answer conflicts with a parcel record, retain both source labels and compare the exact address rather than deciding that one source is wrong.
DeWitt ZIP Code Search Portal Limits
Several official tools accept a ZIP as one input, but none creates a municipal resident roll. Each source has its own purpose and limits. The New York voter tool is a self-lookup with matching details. The other ZIP-capable tools narrow a specific type of official record, not a list of everyone receiving mail in a ZIP.
| Tool | ZIP use | Limit to retain |
|---|---|---|
| USPS Lookup | Delivery address normalization | Does not verify a person or company at the address. |
| NY voter lookup | Part of a personal registration match with name, date of birth, county, and address | Not a public browseable resident list. |
| NYS DOS Licensee Search | Can narrow an active licensee by ZIP, depending on license type | Active-license result, not a residence record. |
| NYS DCJS registry | One of surname, county, or ZIP search options | Level 2 and 3 online directory, CAPTCHA, and legal limits apply. |
| NYS unclaimed funds | City or ZIP can narrow a name or business search | A possible claim still requires identity verification. |
| RPTS legacy search and Beacon | ZIP field not shown or not confirmed | Use physical-address, mailing-address, owner, or parcel modes only as documented. |
| Onondaga GIS viewer | ZIP search not confirmed | Dynamic fields and layers were not exposed in research. |
For RPTS and county GIS, the research confirmed no ZIP field on the legacy property route and no confirmed ZIP function on the inspected current tools. Do not represent either one as a ZIP directory. Their useful role is to verify parcel location after an address has been narrowed by a postal check.
Find Records by DeWitt ZIP Code
A ZIP-based search should be a short verification chain, not a name-only sweep. Begin with a known street address or a record type that the official portal actually supports. The steps below keep postal data, parcel data, and identity evidence in their proper lanes. For voter information, the state service is for the registered voter to confirm their own record, and public voter-derived information has legal use limits.
- Use USPS By Address when a full street line is available, and save the returned delivery format with the date checked.
- Use the postal city and ZIP to narrow the correct official source, such as a self voter check, active license search, registry search, or unclaimed-funds claim search, only when its documented fields fit the question.
- For a parcel question, use RPTS or the Town Assessor's address or parcel route. Keep physical location and owner mailing address as separate fields.
- Open the county GIS or tax map route to confirm the town and parcel context. GIS boundaries are planning data, not a legal survey.
- Require a second independent anchor, such as the exact address, parcel/SBL, date, or official identifier, before treating a name and ZIP as the same person.
Once the ZIP has narrowed a known address, a full road-by-road check belongs in the DeWitt street directory. A parcel record can identify an assessment or ownership relationship, but it does not establish who currently occupies the address.
Note: Keep the source date, search mode, returned city line, and any parcel identifier together so later checks do not merge unlike address fields.
DeWitt ZIP Code and Parcel Address Layers
One street address can belong to several systems at once: a postal city and ZIP, a tax parcel and situs, a county GIS point, a school or election district, a fire district, a utility area, and a town jurisdiction. These layers can disagree without a data error. The sound practice is to write the source label beside every address field and use the authority that controls the question being asked.
For instance, USPS controls the delivery spelling and ZIP assignment. The Town Assessor and RPTS maintain assessment and property information. County GIS supplies planning and display data. The 2025 parcel metadata is updated annually and is not survey-grade. If the task is a town-boundary question, use municipal or Census boundary material rather than the delivery line. If the task concerns an older address, retain old and new street forms because no official DeWitt renumbering or road-name register was located.
DeWitt ZIP Code Geography by the Numbers
Census QuickFacts places DeWitt town at 26,074 people in the 2020 Census, with 33.70 square miles of land area and 10,282 households in the 2020-2024 period. Those figures are useful scale markers for a postal working list, but they are not a count of people in any ZIP. The town's 2025 estimate was 25,487, another reason not to turn a census or ZIP figure into a current person count.
DeWitt's assessor reports more than 11,000 parcels, while the Census household figure measures something different. A parcel can be vacant, nonresidential, or associated with a mailing address elsewhere. Keep population, household, parcel, postal, and property figures separate when comparing sources.
Confirm a DeWitt ZIP Code Result
A name plus ZIP is a weak match. It can describe a broad delivery area that crosses DeWitt, Syracuse, East Syracuse, Fayetteville, Jamesville, or a neighboring town. If an old listing uses 13214 and a later assessment mailing line uses 13057, do not assume a move. Postal standards and mailing practices may have changed while the parcel stayed the same.
Use a stronger combination before making a historical or family connection: name plus exact historical address, name plus parcel/SBL, name plus date, or an official identifier tied to the record type. Then confirm the town with RPTS, the Assessor, a tax map, or GIS as appropriate. Official ZIP-aware tools can narrow the search, but their result labels must remain exactly what the custodian says they are.
